National Hispanic Heritage Month

Written by Maemalynn Meanor | Oct 16, 2023 5:28:32 PM

National Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from September 15-October 15, celebrates the lives, culture and contributions of more than 60 million citizens and families from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Open Mainframe Project aims to ensure that diversity is not only an important part of the project but also the technology landscape. Like Black History Month and Asian American and Pacific Islander Month, Open Mainframe invited Hispanic project and community leaders to share their personal stories. Please see below for their stories:

  • Yarille Ortiz Kilborn, Senior Project Coordinator at the Linux Foundation, whose mother introduced her to mainframes at a young age and encouraged her to find her passions in technology;

  • Fernando Rijo Cedeno, Senior Software Engineer at Broadcom and Open Mainframe Project Ambassador and contributor to Zowe, and his journey from the Dominican Republic; and

  • Luciano Gimeno, LinuxONE Sales Manager of North & Latin America at IBM, was featured in this month’s “I am a Mainframer” podcast. He discusses how he embraced the continuous change in the mainframe world, the growth of Linux on mainframes, the challenges and joys of shifting roles, and more.

Meet other Open Mainframe Project community and project leaders here.

If you’d like to share your personal journey into the tech industry or mainframe ecosystem, reach out to maemalynn@linuxfoundation.org to write a blog or be featured on the I am a Mainframer podcast.
