The Linux Foundation | 03 April 2024
Open Source Networks as Enablers of Global Digital Cooperation
Once again, as part of its ongoing effort to create awareness of open source as a digital public good and an accelerator of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the Linux Foundation is pleased to participate in the OSPOs for Good Symposium, a must-attend event organized by the UN-Office of the Information and Communications Technology, the Office of the UN Secretary-General's Technology Envoy, OSPO++, and Open Forum Europe.
The goal of the 2024 symposium is to institutionalize the ethos of open innovation and collaboration, further embedding open source projects and communities into novel cooperative infrastructures, and fostering collaboration among government, academia, and industry for achieving societal impact together.
The 2024 conference will focus on the role of Open Source Programme Offices (OSPOs) as vital centers of competency to accelerate sustainability by helping drive new forms of global cooperation around open source for good within countries. In particular, the objectives of the conference will be to:
- Highlight the role of OSPOs in connecting and enabling the innovation ecosystem for open source in UN Member States, looking at key policy topics where open source is influencing the conversation between national and global ecosystems (e.g., global cooperation, AI policy, municipal governance, national policymaking, innovation)
- Demonstrate how national and global cooperation policymaking can enable countries to deliver on the promise of open source for good, as well highlight concrete examples of where change is already happening.
- Capture insights around key themes in global policymaking and cooperation around open source and how they are driving a conversation about achieving the SDGs and delivering positive outcomes for society (to be captured in a conference report).
Additionally, LF Research will conduct a new study this year that draws on the insight of symposium participants, and makes the connection between open source and Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Join us in New York City for an exciting agenda packed with speakers from across the globe. For more information and to register, visit the OSPOs for Good 2024 website. See you there!
