New Certification Demonstrates Understanding of Key Open Source Tech Concepts in the Financial Industry
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – FEBRUARY 6, 2024 – Fintech Open Source Foundation (FINOS) along with Linux Foundation Training & Certification have launched the FINOS Financial Services Certified Open Source Developer (FSOSD) certification for the financial services industry.
According to the 2023 State of Open Source in Financial Services report from the Linux Foundation, 94 percent of financial services organizations allow the use of open source technology. The FSOSD provides an essential tool to verify their IT teams have the skills and knowledge to work effectively with open source technology while also ensuring full regulatory compliance.
“I’ve worked in financial services for decades and to me it’s clear that the prospect of enabling the developer community in these firms to contribute to open source software is a complete game-changer,“ said Rob Moffat, Senior Technical Architect, FINOS. “I’m really hoping that this new certification becomes broadly accepted by both developers and financial services firms alike, resulting in broad-based, cross-industry collaboration on our common tech problems.”
“In light of open source technology’s critical role in the financial services industry, it is important that IT professionals with industry experience can prove their open source knowledge,” said Clyde Seepersad, SVP, General Manager, Training & Certification, Linux Foundation. “With the FSOSD both professionals and employers have a reliable means to verify this vital skill set.”
Designed for software engineers, open source developers, DevOps engineers, FinOps practitioners or information security teams, the FSOSD demonstrates an understanding of how to consume and contribute to open source projects within the financial industry, including the importance of regulatory compliance.
The FSOSD supports Open Source Readiness, FINOS’ initiative to improve adoption of open source in the financial services industry.
The 90-minute, multiple-choice FSOSD exam’s domains are:
- Ethics and Behavior: 10 percent
- Open Source Licensing: 18 percent
- Consuming Open Source: 26 percent
- Contributing to Open Source: 28 percent
- Regulatory Impact on Open Source: 18 percent
Those who successfully complete the FINOS Financial Services Certified Open Source Developer (FSOSD) certification exam receive a certificate as well as a digital badge.
