Automation Development Lab Joins Linux Foundation

The Open Source Automation Development Lab (OSADL) brings important expertise to the table to collaborate on using Linux

SAN FRANCISCO, May 18, 2010 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced that the Open Source Automation Development Lab (OSADL) has become a member and will collaborate with other members on embedded and industrial Linux efforts.

Founded in 2005, OSADL coordinates the development of open source projects in the areas of embedded and industrial design, including projects focused on real-time and safety critical Linux, I/O framework, real-time Ethernet and special drivers for the Linux kernel required by the automation industry. OSADL regularly releases “Latest Stable” industrial real-time Linux kernel versions and announces them on the OSADL website at: http://www.osadl.org/Latest-Stable-RT.

“The Linux Foundation provides an important resource for people to collaborate on Linux, both online and at its events,” said Dr. Carsten Emde, general manager, OSADL. “We’re looking forward to the collaboration opportunities and taking Linux to the next level in the embedded and industrial environments.”

“Linux is the standard operating system for industrial embedded systems and automation, so OSADL is an important addition to The Linux Foundation membership,” said Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer programs, The Linux Foundation. “OSADL embodies unique expertise that complements our efforts to advance the Linux platform and achieve ultimate ubiquity.”
