Enterprise Management Vendor Zenoss Joins The Linux Foundation

SAN FRANCISCO, August 3, 2010 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced that open source enterprise IT management company Zenoss is its newest member.

Zenoss products enable enterprises to assure IT service delivery and manage operations for business services, networks, and servers across physical, virtual, and cloud-based datacenters. The company uses the open source development model to design and build its products and is joining The Linux Foundation to collaborate with Linux and open source developers and users on requirements for enterprise-level, end-to-end network monitoring.

“The Linux Foundation helps to advance Linux and complementary open source technologies as well as provides a neutral forum in which to collaborate with developers and users,” said Mark Hinkle, vice president of community at Zenoss. “We’re looking forward to contributing in the area of enterprise IT management and taking advantage of real-time collaboration opportunities like those offered at LinuxCon.”

Zenoss’ customers are increasingly looking to cloud computing to simplify operations and reduce costs. As a result, the company is working with partners such as Cisco and VMware to enable enterprise customers to manage their virtual environments and private cloud datacenters. Linux supports nearly all of the world’s cloud services, including those from Amazon EC2 and Google App Engine, as well as 10gen, 3Tera, Elastra, EMC, Enomaly, Flexiscale, IBM, Mosso, Salesforce.com and more.

“Zenoss is a valuable addition to The Linux Foundation membership,” said Amanda McPherson, vice president, marketing and developer programs, The Linux Foundation. “Enterprise Linux adoption is on the rise, and Zenoss is in a position to collaborate with enterprise Linux users that are managing virtualization and cloud-based IT environments.”

Zenoss is built on the Linux platform. Zenoss Core is an award winning open source network monitoring and systems management project that delivers the functionality to effectively manage the configuration, health and performance of networks, servers and applications through a single, integrated software package. Zenoss recently released version 3.0 featuring numerous community-developed open source cloud monitoring and virtualization management software extensions as well as integrations with other open source technologies for automated management for virtual infrastructure.
