GoAhead Software Joins Linux Foundation
Leading provider of COTS software for network equipment manufacturers joins Foundation to enhance open source business strategy
SAN FRANCISCO, January 11, 2011 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced that GoAhead Software is its newest member.
GoAhead is a worldwide leader in commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions for network equipment manufacturers. GoAhead’s platform includes high availability middleware to ensure 99.999% availability of applications and a management infrastructure for networked elements and devices that require multiple management interfaces. GoAhead’s solutions are used in more than 65,000 deployments, and its customers include Alcatel-Lucent, Lockheed Martin, Motorola and Northrop Grumman, among others.
In October, GoAhead announced a variety of major milestones that have contributed to a near doubling of revenue on a comparable quarter basis (http://www.goahead.com/company/pressreleases/101910.aspx). GoAhead cites the company’s recent and successful shift to an open source-based strategy as one of the primary drivers for this growth.
The success of Linux in the telecommunications infrastructure market is helping to fuel demand for the OS in mobile and consumer electronics. Companies like GoAhead see the breadth of opportunity for using Linux as a core part of their business and technology strategy.
“Linux has become the primary operating system in the telecommunications market. An increasing number of our customers use it in their network equipment and systems,” said Bill Yaman, Senior Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, GoAhead. “Our Linux Foundation membership will help us to actively participate in the collaborative development model and advance both our company strategy as well as Linux overall.”
“Linux is powering the next-generation of telecommunications infrastructure because of its unique ability to provide high-performance capabilities for network equipment and devices,” said Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer programs at The Linux Foundation. “We’re excited to have GoAhead’s participation as Linux takes center stage in this market.”
The Linux Foundation is home the Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) workgroup, which is focused on working with network equipment providers and carriers to gather requirements and produce specifications that Linux distribution vendors can implement, and to take unimplemented requirements and foster development projects that will meet these requirements and assist in upstream integration.
GoAhead will also participate in various Linux Foundation events for their technical focus and cross-education opportunities.
