Huawei Crowned Winner of SDN Idol 2016 at Open Networking Summit

Huawei’s ONOS-Based Transport SDN Super Controller bags top honors
SANTA CLARA – March 17, 2016 – OPEN NETWORKING SUMMIT – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization enabling mass innovation through open source, today is announcing that Huawei’s ONOS-based transport SDN super controller is the winner of SDN Idol 2016. This is the industry’s top award for the year’s hottest SDN & NFV solutions.
Open Networking Summit is the forum for service providers, enterprises, disruptive and incumbent vendors, open source projects, leading researchers and investors to discuss and advance SDN and NFV developments to shape the future of the networking industry.
SDN Idol is a fun, friendly award competition that showcases disruptive SDN & NFV technologies, products or use cases at SDN Idol Demo Track at the annual Open Networking Summit. The four finalists in the demo track were selected by an esteemed panel of judges and the winner was voted for by an audience that boasts SDN & NFV practitioners and enthusiasts across network operators, vendors, investors, researchers, media and analysts.
The Judges for SDN Idol 2015 were:

The four finalists for SDN Idol 2016 were:
- Cavium – SDDC Virtualization: Connecting Physical and Virtualized Workloads in Hardware
- HPE – SDN Enabled vEPC with Distributed User Plane for Mobile Edge Computing
- Huawei – ONOS-Based Transport SDN Super Controller
- Plumgrid – PLUMgrid Open Networking Suite for OpenStack
The top four finalists were chosen based on the following criteria: business value, technology value, differentiation against competition, advancement of overall SDN, and live demonstration.
The SDN Idol Award was presented to Huawei on March 17, at the Open Networking Summit 2016, which attracted more than 1,300 attendees from around the world.
Huawei demonstrated how an ONOS-based transport super controller using ONF T-API standard interface models can deliver sophisticated end-to-end transport topology and service control across multiple transport domains. This approach represents a practical method of deploying open transport control systems and contributed to its selection as this year’s winner.
