Linux Foundation Announces Holiday Individual Membership Drive - Linux Foundation

Members support the Linux operating system while becoming eligible for Linux.com Store gift cards just in time for holidays

SAN FRANCISCO, November 30, 2012 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced a Holiday Individual Membership Drive and promotion that makes members eligible to win free Linux.com Store T-shirts, hats, mugs and more.

New members who sign up for individual membership at http://www.linuxfoundation.org/about/join between today and December 14, 2012 will be automatically entered into a drawing to win one of two $75 gift cards to the Linux.com Store. These prizes will be available just in time for the holidays.

Individual members of The Linux Foundation help advance the Linux operating system and support the work of Linux creator Linus Torvalds. They also receive exclusive benefits that include a Linux.com email address (e.g. john@linux.com); employee purchase pricing from Dell, HP and Lenovo; 35 percent off O’Reilly books and e-books; and a variety of other discounts to attend events, subscribe to industry publications, and to shop at the Linux.com Store.

The Linux.com Store includes exclusive merchandise and original T-shirts, hats, mugs and other items that reflect “geek culture.” The merchandise available in the Linux.com Store is designed to reflect the unique and varied culture associated with Linux: geek pride, freedom, fun, eccentricity, and originality.

“Individuals power Linux in more ways than one. It is individuals who write the code and submit patches. It is also individuals who help sponsor the world’s largest collaborative development project through individual membership at The Linux Foundation,” said Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer services, The Linux Foundation. “The Holiday Individual Membership Drive offers people another opportunity to support the work of Linus Torvalds and the Linux operating system while scoring some additional perks this season.”

Both corporate and individual members support the organization that employs Linus Torvalds as well as important programs that promote and protect Linux. The annual membership fee for individuals is $99. Student membership is $25 and includes all the same benefits as individual members.
