Students can now learn OpenStack administration at their own pace from The Linux Foundation; bundled OpenStack Administrator certification exam to follow
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, December 3, 2015 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization enabling mass innovation through open source, today announced the availability for purchase of its newest self-paced, online training course OpenStack Administration Fundamentals (LFS252). This is a 100 percent online, self-paced course for SysAdmins who are learning the skills necessary to prepare for the Certified OpenStack Administrator exam from the OpenStack Foundation.
The course is based on the existing LFS520 – Essentials of OpenStack Administration course, but offers the learning material in an online, self-paced format, reducing costs and increasing accessibility for students. In particular, students benefit from having access to a unique ‘labs on demand’ environment, which enables them to work on live OpenStack systems that are provisioned (and can be reset) on demand. The new course is available for registration now at $499, a $200 savings off the regular price of $699. The Certified OpenStack Administrator exam, which will be available in Q2 2016, will be offered as a standalone exam, or bundled with the course.
“We have built training and certification programs that we believe provide the most credible, provable skills for open source technologists and managers,” said Linux Foundation executive director Jim Zemlin. “The self-paced OpenStack admin course will advance a key area of technology innovation by equipping the IT workforce with the right skills at the right pace at the right time.”
As OpenStack adoption has accelerated, a shortage of qualified OpenStack administrators has emerged. The demand for such professionals makes accessible and flexible ways to train and certify more important than ever. Existing OpenStack courses are led by an instructor and require a significant commitment to attend even the online courses at specific times and go through the material at a predetermined pace. Instructor-led courses are also more expensive, putting this type of training out of reach of many individuals. The Linux Foundation is recognized for offering numerous self-paced, online courses, which have proven to result in higher enrollment rates thanks to lower costs and a more flexible commitment.
“Training is a key initiative for the OpenStack community, and a growing ecosystem of training providers is helping equip professionals with the skills they need to help enterprises and service providers succeed with OpenStack,” said Jonathan Bryce, executive director of The OpenStack Foundation. “The Linux Foundation is playing an important part in that effort, and we look forward to their role as the Certified OpenStack Administrator certification launches.”
Students in the new self-paced course will have up to one year to complete the course, allowing them to study as quickly or slowly as they like and enabling working professionals to enroll. Additionally, as the course is completely online, anyone in the world can take it, opening the training up to a much broader population that could not access it previously. Pricing that is significantly lower than other OpenStack courses, combined with the bundled certification exam, puts a fruitful OpenStack career in reach of countless individuals. Experienced system administrators, whether from a Linux or Microsoft background, will have the requisite knowledge to succeed in this training.
Enrollment is available now to interested students, with access to the course materials and content beginning January 19th. More information can be found at https://training.linuxfoundation.org/linux-courses/system-administration-training/openstack-administration-fundamentals.
