Managed Hosting Provider ServInt Joins Linux Foundation
Pioneer in web hosting joins Linux Foundation to advance virtualization technologies that deliver “greener” IT
SAN FRANCISCO, May 4, 2010 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced that managed hosting provider ServInt is its newest member.
ServInt is joining The Linux Foundation to take advantage of exclusive networking events and online and face-to-face workgroup collaboration on Virtualization and Green Linux.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, data centers accounted for 1.5 percent of American energy consumption in 2006; that number is expected to double by next year (2011). By implementing a virtualization strategy that revolves around Linux, IT hosting providers like ServInt are able to help minimize that consumption and reduce overall costs for customers.
“Linux helps us meet our commitments to innovation and energy savings for our customers, and our Linux Foundation membership will allow us to contribute back to the community,” said Reed Caldwell, founder and chief executive officer of ServInt. “We’re proud to take this important step in reaffirming our commitment to Linux and the open source community.”
“ServInt understands the value of Linux in shaping the future of IT management, and its contribution to the Linux Foundation will help advance the platform for that future,” said Amanda McPherson, vice president, marketing and developer programs, The Linux Foundation.
