Bitdefender and Fox Technologies Leverage Open Source For Protection of Corporate Data
San Francisco, April 28, 2015 — The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux and collaborative development, today announced that Bitdefender and Fox Technologies, Inc. are joining the organization.
An increasing portion of our private lives and business operations are recorded, managed, and shared virtually. As a result, businesses are struggling with how to increase the efficiency of their data storage, while decreasing security risks. One of the largest and most widespread priorities is guaranteeing network security to prevent malware threats and protect corporate information.
Backed by a global community of developers who deliver timely security fixes and regular kernel updates, Linux is the platform of choice for a growing number of security-conscious data center operators and cloud providers. From antivirus software to access management technology, today’s new members are increasing their Linux investment to address a range of security challenges.
More information about today’s new Linux Foundation members:
Bitdefender is a global security technology company, which consistently produces award-winning security technology for businesses and consumers and is one of the top security providers in virtualization and cloud technologies. Bitdefender’s innovative software solutions are favored by many Linux users, as the software is both customizable and on-demand, making the threat-scanning process available at any time with support for many Linux distributions. More than 500 million home and business users worldwide rely on Bitdefender security software, which is delivered in more than 100 countries through a network of value-added alliances, distributors and reseller partners.
“Bitdefender takes great pride in joining the Linux community, strengthening the collaboration efforts within the security area with a particular focus on hypervisor-based security development efforts,” said Mihai Donƫu, Chief Linux Officer at Bitdefender. “We look forward to contributing to making the computing environments a better place, through transparent and open source projects.”
Fox Technologies is a leading provider of comprehensive security control solutions for diverse server environments. The company recently announced the new release of BoKS ServerControl 7.0, a centralized system that enables cross-platform account, access and privilege management for Unix and Linux servers. BoKS ServerControl not only authenticates and provisions user access, but also provides granular access controls around the user session to mitigate the risk of credentials being stolen, controlling the elevation of privilege and scope of user access.
“The recent Sony and Anthem breaches, in which stolen credentials were leveraged to gain access to critical systems, has shined a light on the security vulnerabilities within current infrastructures that do not utilize a centrally managed security platform,” said Mark Lambiase, Chief Technology Officer of Fox Technologies, Inc. “Whether it’s ten or 50,000 servers, BoKS ServerControl brings it all together in one central point to manage users across hosts and define their privilege. No other product for UNIX/Linux servers offers this level of granular access control.”
“Security vulnerabilities in today’s complex software environments are a fact of life,” said Amanda McPherson, Chief Marketing Officer of The Linux Foundation. “Our newest members bring undeniable innovation in network security to the table, which is an ongoing challenge for the software industry. The collaborative nature of Linux allows us to work closely with companies like Bitdefender and Fox Technologies to continually improve data protection, security and business continuity.”
