SAN FRANCISCO, January 5, 2011 – The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, today announced that Protecode is its newest member.
Protecode is a provider of products and services for open source software licensing and copyright management, software Intellectual Property (IP) management, code portfolio mapping, and for carrying out IP due diligence of software companies. The company is joining The Linux Foundation to participate in the pan-industry initiative, the Open Compliance Program.

“Companies today are building products with software code from multiple sources, which is creating advances in time-to-market and cost reduction but can also introduce licensing complexities,” said Kamal Hassin, director of product management, Protecode. “The Linux Foundation’s Open Compliance Program provides a critical and collaborative resource to address the maturing software development environment. We’re looking forward to being a part of this effort.”
“We are seeing an increasing demand for our Open Compliance Program resources and welcome Protecode’s expertise in open source license management,” said Amanda McPherson, vice president of marketing and developer programs at The Linux Foundation. “Protecode will provide invaluable contributions to The Linux Foundation and its Open Compliance Program.”
Protecode will also participate in The Linux Foundation’s technical and legal events, including the Linux Foundation Legal Summit and the annual Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit and LinuxCon events. Protecode was recognized as a 2010 Gartner “Cool Vendor in IP.”
