As a member of the CIP, TI demonstrates a commitment to facilitating open source innovation and development.
SAN FRANCISCO – FEBRUARY 5, 2025 – The Civil Infrastructure Platform (CIP), the open source project enabling long-term management of infrastructure systems, today announced that Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) has joined as a Gold Member. As a member of the CIP, TI demonstrates a commitment to facilitating open source innovation and development of solutions, tooling, and platforms that empower critical open source infrastructure.
The CIP is a collaborative, open source project dedicated to building and maintaining a pre-production base layer—of industrial quality—to implement commercial products. As a member of the CIP, TI brings a proven track record of providing industrial-grade hardware and software development, with solutions that enable smarter factories, more efficient energy management, and more secure communications. As a system-on-chip supplier, TI also brings its extensive expertise in embedded processing and open hardware to the CIP.
“The Linux kernel and related software were created, and have been maintained and grown in adoption thanks to the passionate community supporting them," said Roland Sperlich, Vice President and General Manager of Processors at Texas Instruments. "Ensuring product longevity and cyber resilience is only possible when we work as a community to overcome challenges. TI is joining with the CIP community to make this happen. By joining CIP, TI is committed to collaborating with industry leaders to deliver robust open source solutions that address the growing demands of industrial and infrastructure markets.”
TI and the CIP will collaborate to enhance the longevity of Linux products and to improve kernel performance, reliability, and security over extended lifecycles—a vital requirement for critical infrastructure systems. TI intends to participate and contribute across project working groups and initiatives, supporting the CIP’s goal of achieving IEC62443-4-2 compliance and working diligently to enhance the stability of the project through improved collaboration with KernelCI.
“We are delighted to welcome Texas Instruments as a Gold member of CIP,” said Urs Gleim, Distinguished Engineer for Connectivity and Edge Computing at Siemens and Chair of the CIP Governing Board. “TI has a strong track record in industrial-grade semiconductors, long-term software support, and a deep commitment to open source innovation, aligning closely with CIP’s mission. TI’s participation will enhance the security, stability, and longevity of open source solutions for critical infrastructure. We look forward to collaborating with TI to drive innovation and build a more secure and sustainable digital foundation.”
Hosted by the Linux Foundation, the CIP is dedicated to creating reusable building blocks that meet the safety and reliability requirements of industrial and civil infrastructure. Learn more about the CIP and how to become a member here.
