Community video showcases 10+ case studies highlighting effective open source management practices across industries.
VIENNA – September 16, 2024 – The Linux Foundation's TODO Group is excited to celebrate its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of significant contributions to the advancement of open source management and Open Source Program Offices (OSPO) best practices in organizations. To commemorate this milestone, TODO has released an exclusive video that highlights TODO’s decade-long commitment to fostering responsible open source integration across organizations through educational resources and best practices.
Founded in 2014, the TODO Group was established to help organizations better manage and grow their open source management operations through the establishment of open source program offices. Over the past ten years, TODO has become a vital resource for organizations looking to implement best practices in open source management. The group has provided essential tools, including comprehensive guides, detailed mind maps, specialized training, mentorship programs, and office hours, all designed to support the effective and responsible use of open source software.
Featuring interviews with OSPO leaders from a variety of industries, including technology, finance, automotive, and telecommunications, the anniversary video provides an overview of the evolution of the TODO Group and introduces more than 10 case studies exploring effective open source management practices. The video features representatives from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Bloomberg, Cisco, CNCF, Ericsson, Fannie Mae, Futurewei, GitHub, Intel, Porsche, TikTok / Bytedance and Toyota as they discuss how the TODO Group's resources have helped them navigate the complexities of open source management.

At Sony, there was a need to organize and document the knowledge accumulated by the Linux Kernel development team and make it operable throughout the organization. We studied Ibrahim Haddad's OSS management approach and around the same time, the term "OSPO" and best practices emerged from the TODO Group. We documented what was already in place and reinforced the areas that needed improvement based on best practices through TODO Group and Ibrahim Haddad’s approach. We also established an internal community called the OSS License Committee.
A couple of years, Kazumi Sato (Distinguished Engineer) started executive briefing to C-level executives with quantitative data. One of the lessons learned is quantitative data is helpful to convince management and engineers. Since its founding 10 years ago, the TODO group has been an essential resource for OSPOs everywhere to help shape the industry’s thinking and connect practitioners across the tech landscape to share best practices.
