Depending on where you are, the word testing might invoke different emotions. Knowing what to test and how to test is challenging. No matter if you are creating an application feature or creating or modifying infrastructure and anything in between, testing is core to confidence building.

Like in development, increasing your test coverage can be iterative. Adding additional tests to cover the changes can start to end up like you are boiling the ocean or looking like a Big Ball of Mud when deciding what to test. Do you run the entire regression test suite e.g all available tests or focus on specifics? Simply the more tests you have to execute, the longer the build and deployment cycles take.

Learn from Harness in this webinar about approaches in Quality Engineering –  about what is appropriate to test all the way to how to avoid boiling the ocean /  Big Ball of Mud patterns. As we maintain a robust engineering efficiency SaaS platform which we deploy to multiple times a day, this was something we had to solve for.
